Clare Marsh studied at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art and at May Manning’s studio, Merrion Row, Dublin under John Butler Yeats, with whom she formed a life-long friendship, visiting him in New York in 1912 for six months. 

Marsh began exhibiting at the RHA from circa 1900, producing portraits, landscapes, genre scenes and flower paintings. She was a founder member of the Dublin Painters group and started teaching from her Dublin studio at 31, South Anne Street, towards the end of her life
